Murshidabad : The district secretary of the TMC’s Berhampur-Murshidabad organisational district along with 7 others were arrested for allegedly beating up on-duty doctors, hospital staff, and a security guard at the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital. The incident occurred while admitting a patient with respiratory issues. According to hospital sources, a heated altercation erupted between the TMC leader and his supporters and the junior doctors during the patient’s admission process. The situation escalated, resulting in the alleged assault on a junior doctor whose nose was fractured in the attack.
Several other doctors who came to the aid of their colleague were also beaten up. Further, a security guard who tried to intervene also got injured. He is currently receiving treatment after he broke his arm.
Following the incident, the hospital administration filed a written complaint at the local police station. The police launched an investigation based on the complaint, leading to the arrest of all seven accused individuals involved in the assault within a span of 24 hours. The accused were produced before the Berhampur court on Friday, where they were remanded to seven-day judicial custody.
