Thane: In a shocking case of domestic violence, a 46-year-old radiologist from Ambernath was allegedly brutally assaulted by her husband with a pestle at their residence early Wednesday morning, police said. The accused has been arrested and produced before a local court.
Incident in Ambernath West
The attack took place around 4 a.m. on Wednesday at the couple’s home in Mohan Suburbia, an upscale housing society in Ambernath West. The victim, Dr. Shinde, operates three diagnostic centres — one in Badlapur and two in Ambernath — while her husband manages her business operations.
According to police officials, the assault occurred after a schoolmate sent the doctor a complimentary message on social media. The message reportedly said, “Nice DP”, referring to her profile picture taken during a recent school reunion trip to Matheran.
Accused Loses Temper Over Social Media Post
As per a PTI report, the accused allegedly grew enraged after reading the comment and, in a fit of anger, hit his wife on the head with a pestle.
“He was arrested late Wednesday night under Section 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for voluntarily causing grievous hurt,” confirmed Senior Inspector Shabbir Sayyed.
Sons Rushed to Rescue
According to a Hindustan Times report, after the attack began, the husband also attempted to strangulate his wife, but her two sons, aged 18 and 12, rushed to her rescue after hearing her screams.
By the time the boys intervened, their mother was bleeding profusely from head injuries, prompting them to call for help.
Victim’s Video Statement from Hospital
In a video statement recorded from her hospital bed, the radiologist revealed that her husband had assaulted her multiple times in the past.
She stated that although non-cognizable complaints had been filed earlier, she chose not to pursue legal action for the sake of her children.
Previous Incidents of Violence
Sources said the couple had been facing marital discord for some time. A few days before the incident, the doctor had gone out with friends, which allegedly triggered another argument. When her husband later saw the photo and the “Nice DP” comment, his jealousy turned violent, police said.
Investigation Underway
The Ambernath Police have begun a detailed investigation into the incident. Officials said they are verifying past complaints and collecting forensic evidence from the crime scene.
The accused remains in police custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.
