Bokaro: Tension gripped Medicent Super Speciality Cancer Hospital in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district following the death of a 43-year-old woman after surgery. The family has alleged medical negligence, prompting police to launch an inquiry into the incident.
Patient’s Admission and Medical History
The deceased, Sushma Devi, a resident of Rana Pratap Nagar in Chas, was admitted to Bokaro General Hospital on September 29, reporting bowel and urinary difficulties. Due to the unavailability of a specialist doctor, her family was advised to seek treatment at another facility.
Surgery at Medicent Hospital
Sushma Devi was admitted to Medicent Hospital on October 2 and underwent surgery on October 4. According to her husband, Sanjeev Kumar Singh, the doctor assured them post-surgery that the operation was successful and that she would be shifted to the OPD later that evening.
Family Protests After Death
Following her death, agitated family members staged a protest at the hospital. Sector-12 police arrived with reinforcements to control the situation. The family also filed a written complaint at the local police station, demanding justice and accountability.
Police Intervention and Post-Mortem
City DSP Alok Ranjan visited Medicent Hospital to address the issue. After discussions with the family, an agreement was reached to conduct a post-mortem. The DSP stated that the report would be submitted within 14 days, after which appropriate action would be taken against the responsible parties.
Hospital Statement on Patient’s Condition
Dr. Majid Talikoti, CEO of Medicent Super Speciality Cancer Hospital, explained that the patient had previously undergone a cesarean operation, which caused complications leading to obstruction in bowel and urinary functions. He added that post-surgery complications led to heart failure, resulting in her death.
Context of Recent Medical Negligence Cases
The incident comes amid rising concerns over medical negligence in India. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported the death of a 23-year-old pregnant woman at Nalbari Medical College and Hospital, which sparked widespread protests and allegations against hospital staff.

Police have launched a formal inquiry, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation. The post-mortem report and subsequent investigation are expected to determine the exact cause of death and accountability of the hospital staff.
