Crackdown on Unqualified Medical Practitioners Intensifies
Hyderabad: The Telangana Medical Council (TGMC) has stepped up its fight against quackery by registering around 500 FIRs against Unqualified Medical Practitioners (UMPs) across the state in just over a year. Many accused falsely claim the title of Rural Medical Practitioners (RMPs), misleading the public by sounding similar to Registered Medical Practitioners who hold valid MBBS degrees.
Fresh FIRs Filed in Siddipet Town
Continuing its crackdown, TGMC recently registered five new FIRs in Siddipet. The accused include individuals linked to Prasad First Aid Center, Bhargavi First Aid Center, Raja Rajeshwari First Aid Centre, Sathvika Clinic, and Vitthoba Varalakshmi First Aid Centre. These individuals were allegedly practising medicine without any valid qualifications.
TGMC Vice Chairman Highlights Legal Concerns
Speaking to Telangana Today, TGMC Vice Chairman Dr. G. Srinivas stressed, “They call themselves rural medical practitioners and provide treatments without any qualifications, endangering patients’ lives. Legally, Rural Medical Practitioners are not recognised as doctors and are not authorised to practise medicine.”
Gaps in District Health Department’s Action
A senior doctor pointed out that while district health departments are responsible for regulating healthcare establishments, action is often delayed until the Medical Council files FIRs against quacks, indicating a need for more proactive enforcement.
Warnings on Continued Legal Action
Authorities have issued stern warnings that strict legal measures will continue against anyone found practising medicine without proper credentials.
Earlier Efforts by TGMC Against Quackery
We reported that over the previous year, the TGMC had already filed 400 FIRs and issued notices to 40 doctors suspected of aiding unqualified practitioners posing as Rural Medical Practitioners in Telangana, aiming to protect public health and curb malpractice.
