Sonologist removed from register over fake MD qualification; another doctor censured for practising without valid registration
The Telangana Medical Council has taken strict action against two doctors in Suryapet for alleged unethical practices, including use of fake qualifications and practising without valid registration.
Fake Degree and Expired Registration Trigger Action
In a major disciplinary move, the Council removed the name of a sonologist, Dr Soma, from its medical register for two years after finding that he was falsely practising as a Consultant Radiologist using an unrecognised MD (Radiodiagnosis) degree.
The Council observed that his registration had expired on March 26, 2022, and had not been renewed. During inspection, a registration certificate submitted in his name was also found to be fabricated.
Misrepresentation as Radiologist
According to the findings, Dr Soma had been:
- Displaying “MD (Radio Diagnosis)” on name boards and reports
- Presenting himself as a Consultant Radiologist
- Practising without a recognised postgraduate qualification approved by the National Medical Commission
During the inquiry, he admitted to misrepresenting his qualifications and acknowledged that he did not possess a valid MD degree in Radiodiagnosis.
Inspection at Diagnostic Centre
The मामला surfaced after the Council took suo motu cognisance and formed an inspection team to probe unethical practices in Suryapet and Nalgonda districts.
The team inspected Apple Scan Centre, Suryapet, where multiple irregularities were detected, including involvement of unqualified practitioners and violations of medical ethics norms.
Practising Without Registration
Another doctor, Dr Ali, was found working as a Consultant Radiologist without valid registration with the Telangana Medical Council.
He admitted that he was unaware of the requirement for separate state registration and also confessed to submitting a fabricated certificate during the inspection.
Violations of Medical Ethics Regulations
Both doctors were charged under provisions of the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002, including:
- Professional misconduct
- Use of fabricated documents
- Infamous conduct in professional respect
Final Decision by Council
After reviewing evidence and recommendations of the Ethics Committee, the Council:
- Removed Dr Soma from the Medical Register for two years
- Directed him to surrender his registration certificates within 10 days
- Warned of permanent removal in case of non-compliance
- Censured Dr Ali for his violations
The decision was taken under provisions of the Telangana Medical Practitioners Registration Act, 1968.
Right to Appeal
Both practitioners have been given the option to file an appeal before the National Medical Commission within 60 days, as per applicable legal provisions.
