Doctor Administered Allopathic Treatment Without Qualification
Navi Mumbai: A BHMS-qualified homeopathy doctor practicing in Vishnu Nagar, Digha, has been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder after a 13-year-old girl died under his care in 2023. Investigations revealed that the doctor administered allopathic injections and medicines despite lacking the necessary qualifications, leading to the teenager’s death.
Medical Board Confirms Negligence
As per standard procedure, cases of medical negligence are referred to a medical board for review. After careful investigation, the board confirmed that the doctor was negligent in treating the girl. Reports indicate that the doctor’s unauthorized use of allopathic drugs led to the victim suffering seizures and foaming at the mouth.
Following the board’s findings, police have registered a case against the doctor under Section 304 (2) of the IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). However, the accused doctor has not yet been arrested.
Timeline of the Incident
The incident dates back to September 16, 2023, when the teenager was brought to Sai Sanjivani Clinic in Digha after experiencing fever, vomiting, and dizziness. The accused doctor, Dr. Himat Alchouni, administered injections and allopathic tablets despite not having an allopathy degree.
Shortly after taking the prescribed medication, the girl suffered seizures and foaming at the mouth. Concerned, her family rushed her back to the clinic at 10:45 PM, but the doctor advised them to take her to a bigger hospital. Tragically, she died before she could receive further treatment.
Family Files Complaint, Legal Proceedings Underway
Accusing the doctor of medical negligence, the girl’s family filed a complaint at the local police station. After reviewing the case, the medical board confirmed the doctor’s wrongful actions, leading to the registration of an FIR.
“As per protocol, when a family alleges negligence, we refer the case to the medical board for expert advice. The board confirmed negligence by Dr. Alchouni, and accordingly, we registered the case. Further investigations are ongoing,” said Senior Police Inspector Sunil Waghmare from Rabale MIDC Police Station.
Legal proceedings and further investigations into the case are currently in progress.
