Series of Agitations Planned from March 11
Chennai: Government doctors in Tamil Nadu have announced a series of protests starting March 11, 2025, demanding better working conditions, staffing, and pay hikes.
The protests will begin with a rally from Mettur to Chennai. On March 18, doctors will send e-mails to the Chief Minister and the National Medical Commission, urging them to address their concerns. A demonstration is also planned for March 19 at the Directorate of Medical Education premises at 3 p.m., said S. Perumal Pillai, State President of the Legal Coordination Committee (LCC) for Government Doctors.
Key Demands of Government Doctors
- Appointment of doctors based on patient load in government hospitals.
- Government job for Divya, wife of the late Dr. Vivekanandan, who died while serving during the pandemic.
- Implementation of pay hike as per Government Order 354.
- Adequate rest days for postgraduate students, citing overwork and staff shortages.
- More medical personnel in government hospitals and primary health centres, especially as the State focuses on opening new medical colleges without proportionate staffing.
The LCC has accused the government of ignoring their demands despite repeated appeals and is determined to press forward with the agitation.
