Crackdown on Unqualified Medical Practitioners
Silchar: Following the arrest of a fake doctor at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), Cachar police have intensified their action against unqualified medical practitioners. Two fake dentists, running clinics in the Tarapur area for over ten years, have been arrested.
The arrests were prompted by complaints from Red Cross Hospital and SMCH regarding the increasing number of unqualified individuals posing as medical professionals. The Indian Dental Association (IDA), Assam State Branch, had formally lodged a complaint on September 2.
Details of the Arrests
Police conducted raids at Hazari Dental Clinic and Mazumdar Dental Clinic, both located in the Tarapur India Club Masjid complex. The accused, Kamrul Islam Hazari (50) and Tinku Mazumdar (53), were caught red-handed while treating patients, confirmed SP Cachar, Numal Mahatta.
Authorities also seized a prescription pad displaying fake educational credentials, confirming the fraudulent nature of the operations. During questioning, the accused claimed to be “dental therapists” and claimed to hold an “alternative science MD degree” from a college in West Bengal.
Official Statement and Measures
SP Mahatta said, “They have been running this nexus without people being aware of their qualifications. As soon as we received information, we acted immediately. Strict action will continue against all quacks or those acting as doctors, as instructed by the Chief Minister.”
