Mumbai: Shushrusha hospital which is managed by a team of 17 Directors elected directly by the shareholder of the Shushrusha Citizen Co-op Hospital Ltd is likely to see a change in its management in the upcoming elections to be held on 07.05.2025. It is the only hospital which has co-operative structure in India wherein 23,000 plus strong shareholders vote and elect the management of the hospital. The Shushrusha hospital has been managed for the last decade by the panel headed by veteran orthopaedic Dr Nandu Lad. In this election he is not contesting and his panel is headed by his son-in-law Dr. Subhash Bhende.
Opposing the panel of Dr. Bhende is Shri Swami Samarth Parivartan Panel which is headed by the former Mayor of Mumbai Mahadev Dewale who is known for his down to earth approach. Also the Shri Swami Samarth Parivartan Panel includes heavy weight in co-operative sector Adv. Suhas Bane, director of Apna Bazar and Mumbai Sahakari Board; Ashish Chitre, former director of Shushrusha hospital; Kenkre Maharudra, Ex-Principal, Kirti College; Bharat Raut, Mumbai Marathi Granthalaya; Sontakke Vithal, Ex-Vice Principal, Kirti College and others. In the category of doctors, Shri Swami Samarth Parivartan Panel candidates are Dr. Ajgaonkar Umesh, Dr. Ambre Nalini, Dr. Surve Amita and Dr. Tadela Amitkumar. Dr. Surve Amita said “Our panel will win all the 17 directors and the symbol of our panel is “Statoscope” which represents the medical profession while others have non-medical symbols.” The coming elections will not be a cake walk for Dr. Subhash Bhende and his panel. Meanwhile, Shri Swami Samarth Parivartan Panel has raised issues near and dear to the shareholders. Many shareholders were of the view that there should be a change in the management of the hospital so that new medical services and new technology could be introduced by a new team of directors.
