Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, presided over the 3rd Foundation Day of AIIMS Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh, joined by prominent dignitaries including Shri Anurag Thakur, Shri Harsh Mahajan, Shri Jai Ram Thakur, and Col. - The institute has become a regional healthcare hub, attracting patients from neighboring states, reducing out-of-pocket expenditure and the need to travel to PGI Chandigarh for high-end tertiary care.
- Specialized services include nuclear medicine, cancer care, renal transplants, ICU facilities (64 beds across Cardiac, Medical, NICU, PICU), and 8 successful kidney transplants.
- Research infrastructure has expanded with Endocrinology, Immunology labs, and a Regional Viral Research & Diagnostic Laboratory.
Education & Faculty Expansion:
- 127 new posts sanctioned, comprising 29 faculty and 98 non-faculty positions, with the Selection Committee conducting at least four interview rounds over a year.
- Emphasis on short-term exchange programs between AIIMS institutions and a roadmap for departmental growth in collaboration with NITI Aayog and IIPA.
- Medical education in India has grown significantly, with 808 medical colleges, annual UG seats rising from 35,000 to 1.25 lakh, and 5,000 new UG and PG seats sanctioned. Another 75,000 seats are planned in government medical institutions over the next five years.
Infrastructure Development:
- Plans for a 500-bed Vishram Sadan, Type III-V quarters, UG student hostels, an indoor stadium, and sustainable initiatives such as a rooftop solar plant.
- Future expansions include a bone marrow transplant block, advanced autopsy block, trauma & critical care centre, robotic surgery unit, drone-based logistics for remote healthcare, and a multilevel parking facility.

- Three Amrit/Jan Aushadhi Pharmacies for affordable medicine access.
- A 250-bed Vishram Sadan under construction to accommodate patient attendants.
