Allegations Surface Against In-Charge Dean of GMERS Medical College, Dharpur
Gandhinagar: Dr. Hardik Shah, senior government medical officer and in-charge dean at GMERS Medical College, Dharpur (Patan), is facing an inquiry over allegations of running a private hospital and engaging in private practice—actions prohibited for full-time government doctors.
Government Norms Forbid Private Practice by Government Doctors
Government regulations grant doctors a non-practising allowance but strictly prohibit them from working at or owning private medical establishments. Violations of these rules can lead to disciplinary action.
Connection to Rishabh Medisurge Hospital Under Scrutiny
Dr. Shah is reportedly linked to Rishabh Medisurge Hospital in Ahmedabad’s Jodhpur area, which he is accused of operating. Another doctor formerly posted at Patan Medical College is also said to be associated with the same hospital. A video supporting these claims has circulated widely on social media.
High-Level Inquiry Ordered by GMERS CEO
Ahmedabad Mirror reports that following the controversy, GMERS CEO Dr. Manish Ramavat constituted a four-member committee to investigate. The team has begun collecting statements from Dr. Shah and other concerned doctors, including visits to Patan Medical College.
Official Denies Allegations
Dr. Hardik Shah has categorically denied the accusations, stating, “I am not involved in any private practice, and I do not own any hospital in Jodhpur. These claims are false.”
Inquiry Ongoing; Further Action Pending
The committee’s investigation is underway, with disciplinary steps to follow based on its findings.
