Chandigarh: The residence of Dr. Amit Arora, an associate professor at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), was recently targeted by burglars who stole cash and jewellery worth over Rs 3 lakh. An FIR has been filed, and the police are investigating the incident.
The robbery took place when Dr. Arora, who typically monitors his residence, was absent for two days along with his mother. The house, which was locked during their absence, was broken into. Dr. Arora discovered the theft when he returned home on the evening of December 19 and found the front door’s lock broken. Upon further inspection, he noticed that the bedroom door and a wooden cupboard had been forced open, with clothes and jewellery boxes scattered across the floor.
Dr. Arora’s mother, who usually resides in the house located in Sector 11-A, had been away at Dera Beas since December 12, leaving the house locked. When Dr. Arora video-called his mother to inform her about the robbery, she identified the stolen items, which included a gold bracelet, a Gillibrand, pendant, chain, two pairs of earrings, and Rs 25,000 in cash. These items had sentimental value as they were gifted by Dr. Arora’s grandmother.
After confirming the stolen items, Dr. Arora alerted the police. A mobile forensic unit was sent to the scene to inspect the house. Dr. Arora then filed a complaint, and a case was registered under Section 305(a) BNS (theft in a dwelling house). The police are currently investigating the matter and working to identify the robbers.
