Neurology Capacity Increased
Ranchi: To address the growing need for neurological care, the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) will add 30 beds to its neurology department, increasing total capacity from 100 to 130 beds. The expansion aims to ensure timely treatment for patients with stroke, epilepsy, brain tumours, and other complex neurological conditions.
Enhanced Facilities Across Departments
RIMS has also upgraded other critical services. A dedicated burn unit with advanced isolation and infection control has been set up, while the cancer unit now offers integrated medical, surgical, and radiation oncology under one roof. The cardiology wing has strengthened facilities for cath lab procedures, angiography, and open heart surgery, enabling complex cardiac interventions.
Patient Relief and Accessibility
Patients and families hope the expansion will reduce overcrowding and improve access to care. Govind Kumar, a resident of Latehar, said, “My father is battling cancer. I cannot afford treatment in a private hospital. RIMS are always overcrowded. We hope the expansion will help patients like us receive timely treatment.”
Support Measures for Families
In addition, RIMS will provide immediate financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to families of patients who die during treatment. The decision was approved at a Governing Body meeting chaired by retired Justice Amareshwar Sahay.
Impact on Tertiary Care
The expansion and upgraded facilities are expected to significantly improve patient care, streamline emergency management, and strengthen RIMS’ position as one of Jharkhand’s leading tertiary care centres.
