Kolkata: The West Bengal Joint Platform of Doctors (WBJPD) is set to stage a 10-day sit-in protest in Kolkata, starting Tuesday, in response to the CBI investigation into the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case. The case has drawn significant attention, especially after two key suspects were granted bail.

The demonstration, organized by WBJPD—an umbrella group of five doctors’ associations—will be held at Doreena Crossing until December 26, according to an office-bearer of the organization.

“We demand the immediate submission of the supplementary chargesheet by the CBI,” said Dr. Punyabrata Gun, joint convener of WBJPD.

In preparation, WBJPD has written to Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma, seeking permission for the sit-in.

“We have requested permission to set up a temporary stage while ensuring it does not disrupt traffic. The demonstration will be conducted peacefully, adhering to all legal and safety protocols,” Dr. Gun stated.

The organization has also urged the police to ensure the safety of all participants.

This follows a march organized by WBJPD to the CBI office at CGO Complex in Salt Lake on Saturday, highlighting their concerns over the case.

The incident, which occurred on August 9, involved the death of an on-duty female doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, sparking nationwide protests.
