Another Assault Rocks Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital

New Delhi: Just 10 days after a female doctor was assaulted at Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital, another violent incident occurred on Tuesday. This time, doctors and security personnel were allegedly attacked by patients’ attendants, leaving resident doctors traumatised and hospital property damaged.

Hospital Property Vandalised

Several videos circulating on social media showed the chaos inside the hospital. In one clip, an attendant is seen trying to attack a doctor while others attempt to restrain him. Another video revealed a broken hospital door with shattered glass and damaged bed handles, highlighting the severity of the violence.

Background: Previous Assault

The recent attack follows a prior assault case in which a female doctor on duty in the casualty department was reportedly attacked by a foreign national patient’s attendant under the influence of drugs. The attendant allegedly pulled her clothes, causing an injury to her forearm and leaving a bruise under her watch. Shockingly, neither the security personnel nor the on-duty police officer intervened at the time.

Doctors’ Associations Demand Action

Medical associations have strongly condemned the violence. FAIMA posted on X, “Repeated assault within 10 days at DDU Hospital Casualty! Doctors and security personnel were attacked, hospital property vandalised, and resident doctors left traumatised. FAIMA strongly condemns this recurring violence and demands strict legal action.”

Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, FAIMA National Executive and AIMSA (J&K) Vice President, added, “Another incident of violence at DDU Hospital, Delhi — doctors and security staff assaulted, hospital property vandalised by patient attendants last night. Urging authorities to take strict action.”

DMA Condemns Attack

The Democratic Medical Association (DMA) also condemned the incident, stating, “We demand immediate and strict action against the culprits. DMA stands in full solidarity with the doctors of DDU Hospital.”

The repeated attacks at DDU Hospital highlight growing safety concerns for medical staff and call for urgent review of hospital security protocols.
