Two Nurses Suspended, Ward Boy Sacked After Viral Video
Jabalpur: A disturbing video showing a rat infestation at Mandla District Hospital has led to the suspension of two nurses and the termination of a ward boy’s service. Despite repeated complaints from patients’ families and hospital staff, authorities failed to act until the footage went viral.
Pest Control Neglected for Eight Months
The 27-second video shows a patient sleeping on a hospital bed while rats scurry across a table and jump around the ward. Following the video’s circulation, Mandla Collector Somesh Sharma inspected the hospital on Saturday and discovered that pest control had not been conducted for the past eight months.
Taking immediate action, he ordered pest control measures and directed the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) to ensure regular cleanliness and pest control at the facility.
Hospital Officials Face Consequences
Mandla CMHO Dr. Kirti Sarote confirmed that two staff nurses were suspended and an outsourced employee was sacked. Additionally, a show-cause notice was issued to the hospital’s civil surgeon, Dr. Vijay Dhurve, and assistant manager, Ajay Saiyam, for negligence.
While lower-level staff have faced action, no senior official has been held accountable for the oversight yet.
