KOTA (Rajasthan): In a shocking case of alleged medical negligence, a man has claimed that doctors at Kota Medical College Hospital mistakenly performed surgery on his paralysed father, who was only present as an attendant, instead of on him.
The actual patient, Manish, had sustained injuries in an accident and was scheduled to undergo surgery on Saturday. With no one else to assist him, Manish said he asked his paralysed father to accompany him to the hospital for support.
“I was injured in an accident and had no one else to assist me, so I asked my paralysed father to come with me,” Manish said. “My surgery was set for Saturday, so I told him to wait outside the operation theatre. I was inside the OT and have no idea what happened, but now my father has 5–6 stitches on his body.”
The incident reportedly unfolded while Manish was being prepared for surgery. Somehow, his father — who was paralysed and not scheduled for any medical procedure — ended up being taken into the operation theatre and underwent a procedure, details of which remain unclear.
Expressing frustration and helplessness, Manish added, “I don’t remember who operated on me. I’m in this condition myself—what can I possibly do?”
Hospital Forms Inquiry Committee
Dr. Sangeeta Saxena, Principal of Kota Medical College Hospital, has confirmed that an inquiry has been initiated.
“I’ve asked the superintendent to constitute a committee and provide a report within 2–3 days. A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter,” she said.
The hospital has not yet released an official statement detailing how the mix-up occurred or the nature of the surgery performed on the wrong individual. The committee is expected to submit its findings soon.
