Jaipur: A neurosurgeon from Jodhpur, Dr. Tejpal Fidoda, has fallen victim to a stock trading scam, losing ₹62.8 lakh within just one and a half days. The cybercriminals lured him with promises of high returns through an online investment platform, police said.
How the Scam Unfolded
According to Bhagat Ki Kothi police station in-charge Rajiv Bhadu, Dr. Fidoda received a link on January 3, inviting him to join an app called SCIATOP and a WhatsApp investment group. Once he clicked the link and installed the app, he was added to a group managed by five administrators, including key contacts using mobile numbers:
- 9973339746, 7898103479
- 7357070457, 8624901375, 7304417998
The Fraudulent Scheme
Dr. Fidoda was frequently contacted by two individuals, Niharika Tiwari and Saurabh Jain, who presented themselves as investment advisors. They created a private wealth group for him, offering investment guidance and persuading him to transfer funds into an institutional trading account rather than his personal demat account.
The fraudsters falsely claimed to be affiliated with the Standard Chartered Wealth Fund and convinced him to invest in:
- OTC (Over-the-Counter) trading
- IPOs (Initial Public Offerings)
- Institutional trading
After transferring a large sum, Dr. Fidoda was informed that his money had been frozen and was pressured to deposit more funds to “release” his existing investment. At this point, he realized he had been scammed.
Police Investigation Underway
Upon filing an FIR at Bhagat Ki Kothi police station, authorities launched an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the fraudsters gained the doctor’s trust through WhatsApp communication and fake investment claims.
The police are now tracking the bank accounts and mobile numbers involved to identify and arrest the culprits. Cybercrime authorities urge the public to remain cautious about unsolicited investment schemes promising quick, high returns.
