Telangana: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, conducted a raid at a quack’s clinic in Kothapet Rupla Thanda Gramapanchayat, Shivampet Mandal, Medak District, seizing illegal drugs stocked for sale.

Clinic Operating Without License

On March 17, 2025, acting on credible information, DCA officials raided the premises of an unqualified practitioner, Palthya Raju, who was conducting clinical practice without proper qualifications at Balaji First Aid Centre, Medak District.

During the raid, officials found 30 varieties of medicines, including:

  • Antibiotics: Amoxycillin, Ofloxacin, Ornidazole, etc.
  • Steroids: Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate Injection, Prednisolone Tablets.
  • Painkillers and other drugs

The total value of the seized stock was ₹20,500.

Risks of Indiscriminate Drug Sales

DCA officials warned against the sale of antibiotics and steroids by unqualified individuals, highlighting the dangers of:

  • Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) due to the misuse of antibiotics.
  • Severe health consequences from steroid misuse, including immune suppression, hormonal imbalances, cardiovascular issues, and psychological effects.

Legal Action Against Offenders

The raid was carried out by Drugs Inspector P. Chandrakala under the supervision of Dr. J. Raju, Assistant Director, Siddipet. Samples have been collected for analysis, and further investigations are ongoing.

As per the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, stocking and selling medicines without a drug license is a punishable offense, with imprisonment of up to five years.

The DCA also warned wholesalers and dealers supplying medicines to unqualified individuals, stating that they will face legal action for violating the Act.

Since January 2024, the DCA has registered 153 cases against quacks for illegal stocking and sale of drugs in Telangana.
