Shravasti : In a tragic incident, a pregnant woman died following surgery at an unregistered private hospital in the district, prompting the police to book three doctors for alleged medical negligence and the administration to initiate proceedings to seal the facility.
Hospital Was Operating Illegally
According to Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Sanjay Sharma, the facility—Nandini Hospital, located in Shahpur Jot under the Kotwali Dehat police station—was operating without registration. A complaint was lodged by Suraj Tiwari, a resident of Shravasti, who stated that his sister Manna Devi was admitted to the hospital on March 29 for delivery. She underwent surgery and died the following day, allegedly due to negligent treatment by the attending doctors.
Doctors Booked Under Negligence Charges
Based on the family’s complaint, police have registered a case on April 8 against Dr. D.K. Vishwakarma (the hospital operator), Dr. R.K. Singh, and Dr. Preeti Sharma under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 106(1) for causing death by negligence.
Hospital Operator Fled During Inspection
A surprise inspection was conducted by the state health department on April 3, after repeated attempts to contact the hospital operator went unanswered. Officials reported that upon arrival of government vehicles, Dr. Vishwakarma fled the premises after locking the hospital doors, effectively stalling the investigation.
Hospital Closure and Legal Action
While the hospital is currently closed, a notice has been sent to Dr. Vishwakarma, barring him from operating the facility without official permission. The CMO has recommended sealing the hospital, but due to its residential section, authorities say it cannot be sealed without direct contact with the operator.
This incident has once again raised concerns over illegal medical practices and lack of oversight at private healthcare facilities. The administration has assured that strict action will be taken to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.
