Hospital Refutes Allegations, Politicians Demand Action
Mumbai : A Pune-based hospital allegedly refused to admit a pregnant woman due to non-payment of a Rs 10 lakh advance deposit, leading to her death after delivery at another hospital, claimed BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe on Thursday.
BJP MLC Alleges Negligence
Gorkhe stated that Tanisha Bhise, the wife of his personal secretary, Sushant Bhise, was denied admission at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital despite assurances of an immediate Rs 3 lakh payment. Even intervention from Mantralaya failed to change the hospital’s stance, he alleged.
Political Outrage Over the Incident
- Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare criticized the hospital, saying, “Had the hospital shown some humanitarian consideration, Tanisha Bhise might have survived.”
- BJP MLC Chitra Wagh condemned the hospital’s alleged commercial approach and demanded strict action, including revoking licenses of doctors and shutting down such hospitals.
- “If this can happen to someone connected to a legislator, imagine the plight of ordinary patients,” Wagh remarked.
Hospital Denies Allegations
The Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital denied the accusations, calling them misleading. Dr. Dhananjay Kelkar, Medical Director, announced that a detailed report would be submitted to the state’s health department, providing medical details that were allegedly concealed by the woman’s family.
Call for Government Action
MLC Gorkhe has urged Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to take strict action against the hospital and plans to raise the matter in the upcoming legislative session.
