
Health Department Takes Action Following Racket Bust
Salem: The Tamil Nadu health department has suspended a primary health centre (PHC) doctor and a nurse in Salem district for their involvement in an illegal sex determination racket. Officials have also recommended the dismissal of another PHC nurse linked to the case.
Officials Crack Down on Illegal Activities
Dr. S. Nandhini, Joint Director of Medical Services, confirmed that Dr. Muthamil and nurse Ambika from Achankuttapatty PHC had been suspended. Additionally, the dismissal of Thedavur PHC staff nurse Kalaimani has been recommended.
Legal and Departmental Actions Underway
The Veeranam police arrested Dr. Muthamil, Ambika, and Kalaimani, who were subsequently remanded in judicial custody. The joint director clarified that a departmental inquiry is ongoing, and the accused will be arrested formally upon approval from the health department.
Meanwhile, three touts connected to the case have also been arrested, further exposing the extent of the illegal operation.
