Forged digital signatures, fake arrears withdrawals expose deep-rooted financial irregularities in Ganjam health department
A major financial irregularities case linked to medical arrears funds has surfaced in Odisha’s Ganjam district, with vigilance officials detaining five employees of Kodala Hospital as part of an ongoing investigation.
According to officials, the accused were initially interrogated at the office of the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) before being shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning. The case is being treated as a serious breach of financial and administrative protocols within the district health system.
Seven Identified, More Suspects Likely
Preliminary findings indicate that at least seven individuals are involved in the scam so far. However, investigators believe the network could be wider, with more officials and key players likely to come under scrutiny as the probe progresses.
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of a larger organized fraud involving multiple departments and insiders.
Forged Digital Signatures Used in Fraud
One of the most alarming revelations in the case is the alleged use of forged digital signatures of government officials to authorize fraudulent transactions. This method enabled the accused to illegally withdraw funds by manipulating official records.
Taking cognizance of these findings, the CDMO had earlier suspended seven employees suspected of involvement in the scam.
₹2.5 Crore Embezzlement at Kodala Hospital
Investigations have also uncovered that around ₹2.5 crore was embezzled from Kodala Hospital. The funds were allegedly siphoned off by showing fake arrears in the names of employees and then misappropriating the amount.
Officials suspect that fraudulent withdrawals were made over a period of time, indicating systematic misuse of financial processes.
High-Level Vigilance Inquiry Recommended
Given the gravity of the allegations, the District Health Department has recommended a high-level vigilance inquiry to thoroughly investigate the matter.
Officials have stated that more details will be disclosed as the investigation progresses, and further arrests cannot be ruled out.
Similar Fraud Case Reported in Chhattisgarh
In a separate but similar case reported last month from Raipur, police arrested another आरोपी in a ₹2.34 crore fraud involving fake job promises and fabricated medical degrees. The case is under investigation and has raised concerns over growing financial and credential-related frauds in the healthcare sector.
