NMC – Medical Colleges to take care of PG students well-being

New Delhi : Acting on complaints from the PG students in Medical College of undue stress caused by long working hours, no weekly offs, non-sanctioning of leaves during emergency etc., the National Medical Council has urged medical colleges to take care of PG students well-being. The NMC has asked the medical colleges to take care of their student mental health and well-being by ensuring they get adequate rest, weekly offs, counselling, sanctioned leaves and a conducive working environment. The NMC has also asked the medical colleges to submit action taken reports on the issue as well as the practice they follow with special mention of cases of suicide, gender bias and incidences of dishonor to woman’s decency. Dr. Vijay Oza, President of the Post-Graduate Medical Education Board, NMC has written a letter to the medical colleges and urged them to take steps for the well-being of the PG students which has been raised in the Parliament as well as the print media.
