New Delhi : The NMC has followed MCI as far as lacking of transparency of NMC is considered as it has failed to reply to an RTI application twice filed by Kerala based Ophthalmologist seeking details of disclosure of the assets of the members of the NMC. It is noteworthy that the 92nd Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health has recommended the disbanding of Medical Council of India (MCI) on the ground that the working of MCI was opaque and skewed and recommended restructuring and composition of MCI. It resulted in MCI being replaced by the present National Medical Council (NMC). Also, section 6(6) of the NMC Act, 2019 states “ The Chairperson and every member of the Commission shall make declaration of his assets and his liabilities at the time of entering upon his office and at the time of demitting his office and also declare his professional and commercial engagement or involvement in such form and manner as may be prescribed, and such declaration shall be published on the website of the Commission.”
