New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a set of directives to all the Medical Colleges of the country to implement Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign) in the Medical colleges across the country. In a letter to the Principals and Deans of Medical Colleges, the National Medical Commission has asked the authorities to take proactive steps in implementing the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan at their respective medical colleges and institutions.

As per the NMC letter the aim of this initiative is to combat the menace of substance abuse through mass awareness, counselling, treatment and care in educational institutions. The NMC has also directed the institutes to form a Nasha Mukt Hostel Committee in this regard. The NMC has directed the institutes to chalk out an annual schedule of activities under the Abhiyan and carry out awareness programmes for students, faculty and other staff of the college. The medical colleges will have to submit a comprehensive report on the actions taken to Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Department of Higher Education and National Medical Commission.
