NMC commences registration of RMP’s in National Medical Register

New Delhi: The NMC’ Ethics & Medical Registration Board (EMRB) has commenced registration of Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) on National Medical Register (NMR) Portal. The NMR Portal was inaugurated on August 23, 2024, the Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Chemical and Fertilizers, Jagat Prakash Nadda. The NMC is mandated under Section 31 of the NMC Act, 2019 that Ethics & Medical Registration Board (EMRB) to maintain a National Register in electronic form containing the name, address, all recognised qualifications possessed by a licensed medical practitioner. NMR will be a dynamic database for all allopathic (MBBS) registered doctors in India. It is linked with the doctors’ Aadhaar IDs, which ensures the individual’s authenticity. The registration process in NMR is online, and all the medical colleges/institutions are interlinked on the portal. Some data will be visible to the public, and others will only be visible to EMRB in NMC, SMC, NBE, and medical institutions as per the requirements.

All MBBS doctors who are already registered on the Indian Medical Register (IMR) have to register again on the NMR. To start the registration, the doctor needs to keep a digital copy of the Degree (MBBS) Certificate and the Registration Certificate of the State Medical Council ready. The portal will soon allow registration of additional qualifications. The doctor must also have the Aadhaar number ready to start the registration process. Queries relating to registration on the NMR portal can be emailed to nmr@nmc.org.in
