Hyderabad, April 19: A tragic incident in Telangana’s Mulug district has sparked widespread outrage after the death of a newborn, allegedly due to medical negligence at a government hospital. The grieving family has blamed the attending doctors for mishandling the delivery and endangering the mother’s life, triggering a protest that drew the attention of state ministers.
The Incident
According to the family, Rawli, a pregnant woman, was admitted to the Mulug Government Hospital in the early hours for delivery. Doctors initially advised a cesarean section, but later opted for a natural delivery, which reportedly led to the infant’s death during childbirth.
The mother is said to be in critical condition, compounding the family’s distress.
Family’s Protest and Police Action
Anguished over the baby’s death and the perceived lack of proper medical care, the family staged a protest outside the hospital, demanding accountability. The demonstration gained traction as locals joined in to express frustration over the quality of public healthcare.
The situation escalated when Telangana Ministers P. Srinivas Reddy and Seetakka, present in the area for a revenue conference, came upon the scene. Attempts by the police to disperse the protesters were met with resistance, eventually leading to forceful removal of demonstrators from the hospital premises.
Government’s Response
Minister Seetakka assured the family that a full investigation would be carried out into the incident. She promised justice and said any negligence uncovered during the inquiry would be dealt with sternly.
Public Outcry Over Healthcare Standards
This incident has reignited concerns about the standard of care in government hospitals, especially in maternal and child healthcare. Citizens and health advocates are calling for systemic reforms, better training, and stricter oversight of public healthcare institutions in Telangana.
