Samastipur: A major NEET-UG 2025 impersonation racket has come to light with the arrest of Dr. Ranjeet Kumar, an MBBS doctor posted at Begusarai Jail, for allegedly arranging proxy candidates to appear for the national medical entrance exam on behalf of original aspirants. The scandal has now widened to include suspicions about the medical admissions of his wife and brother-in-law, both of whom are studying at top medical colleges.

Racket Involved Fake Admit Cards and Paid Solvers

Dr. Ranjeet and his associate Rambabu Mallik were arrested last week after being caught using forged admit cards and arranging solvers to impersonate NEET aspirants. The duo allegedly charged between ₹2.5 lakh and ₹5 lakh per candidate and facilitated these impersonations at centres in Samastipur and other locations, police said.

During interrogation, both confessed to coordinating multiple instances of fraud, helping students get high scores by replacing them with better-performing proxies.

Family Connections Raise Red Flags

Following Dr. Ranjeet’s arrest, a local investigation by Dainik Bhaskar revealed that his wife, Soni Kumari, is a third-year MBBS student at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). His brother-in-law, meanwhile, is a medical student at AIIMS Delhi, prompting speculation that similar fraudulent methods may have been used to secure their admissions.

The probe also uncovered a web of medical professionals in the family. Dr. Ranjeet’s sister, Dr. Juhi Kumari, runs a clinic in Dalsinghsarai, where her son Deepak, also linked to the racket, is employed.

DMCH Officials Caught Unaware, Police Expand Probe

DMCH Principal Dr. Alka Jha, when contacted, confirmed that she was unaware of any relationship between Soni Kumari and Dr. Ranjeet until informed by the media.

Police sources report that Deepak arranged a solver from PMCH, while two others were students of DMCH, allegedly brought in by Rambabu Mallik. Examination centres involved include BRB College in Samastipur and Sri Krishna High School in Jitwarpur.

Police to Interrogate Family, SIT Formed

The Bihar Police are preparing to take Dr. Ranjeet and Mallik on remand for further questioning. Authorities have indicated that they intend to question Soni Kumari, Dr. Juhi Kumari, and her orthopaedist husband based in Patna.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to trace the full extent of the racket. Additionally, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) is now investigating Dr. Ranjeet’s property holdings across multiple villages, suspecting accumulation of assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
