Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): The Madhya Pradesh High Court’s principal bench in Jabalpur has granted relief to Dr. Renu Singh, a postgraduate (PG) medical student from Government GR Medical College, Gwalior, who had to leave her seat due to a severe autoimmune disease.
Dr. Singh, who secured a PG seat in pediatrics as an in-service candidate in 2023, faced health complications from an autoimmune condition causing blood vessel inflammation and restricted blood flow. Her medical condition led to her admission to AIIMS Delhi by the end of 2023.
When Dr. Singh sought to leave the course, the college demanded a penalty of ₹30 lakh and refused to return her original documents or provide a No Objection Certificate (NoC) without payment.
The High Court division bench, comprising Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Sushrut Dharmadhikari, ordered the college to release her documents and NoC without enforcing the ₹30 lakh penalty. Notices were also issued to the medical college and the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) for their response.
Advocate Aditya Sanghi, representing Dr. Singh, emphasized her extraordinary medical circumstances, arguing that it was impossible for her to continue the course under such health conditions.
