Admissions Subject to Court Decision on Additional Seats
New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has informed 50 MBBS students at JIET Medical College and Hospital, Jodhpur, that their admissions are subject to the Supreme Court’s final decision on an ongoing plea. This follows a March 3 directive from the apex court, asking NMC to issue a public notice regarding the matter.
Legal Battle Over Increased MBBS Seats
The case stems from an order by the Rajasthan High Court on December 11, 2023, which allowed JIET Medical College to increase its MBBS intake from 50 to 100 seats. The NMC challenged this ruling in the Supreme Court, arguing that the approval process had not been completed.
The college defended its position, stating that MBBS admissions had already been finalized through NEET-UG 2024 counseling by the time the High Court judgment was announced.
Supreme Court to Decide Fate of 50 Students
The NMC had previously filed an appeal against the High Court’s directive, but the division bench ruled in favor of the college, instructing the commission to grant a Letter of Permission (LoP) for 100 seats. The matter is now pending before the Supreme Court under Special Leave Petition No. 5259/2025.
In compliance with the Supreme Court’s directive, the NMC issued a notification stating:
“The admission of students against the additional 50 seats in JIET Medical College & Hospital, Jodhpur, is subject to the outcome of the pending Supreme Court case.”
Until the court’s final ruling, the status of these 50 students remains uncertain.
