Mangaluru:
The Mangaluru South Police have registered a suo motu case against a doctor for allegedly sharing an anti-national post on social media. Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal confirmed that a case has been filed under Sections 353 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the doctor has been summoned for investigation.
According to the commissioner, the doctor’s mobile phone has been seized and sent for forensic examination. She has also been served a notice to appear at the station as and when required during the probe.
Meanwhile, Highland Hospital in Mangaluru terminated a staff member—believed to be the same doctor—on Saturday, stating that the individual’s social media activity violated its code of conduct and organizational policies. The hospital clarified that it disassociated itself from the views expressed in the post, calling them detrimental to national interest.
The issue drew public attention after Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) Pranta Sahakaryadarshi Sharan Pumpwell shared the post on X (formerly Twitter) and demanded strict action, alleging that the content was both anti-national and anti-Hindu.
The investigation is ongoing.
