Raid in Soygaon Area Exposes Racket
Malegaon police and the Municipal Health Department busted an illegal abortion racket operating under the guise of an Ayurveda clinic. The raid, carried out in the Soygaon area, led to the arrest of five individuals, including a fake BAMS doctor.
Clinic Involved in Female Foeticide
The racket allegedly carried out gender determination tests and abortions, pointing towards cases of female foeticide. The clinic, Sai Sanjeevani Sevabhavi Clinic, had lured patients by claiming to provide Ayurvedic treatment while engaging in unlawful medical practices behind the scenes.
Medicines, Equipment, and Patient Found
During the Wednesday night raid, officers seized abortion-related medicines and equipment. They also found a woman from Yeola who had come to the centre seeking an abortion, further confirming the malpractice.
Fake BAMS Doctor Identified
The main accused, Sandeep Sawant, falsely claimed to have a BAMS degree. Police confirmed he had no qualification or licence to perform abortions. His four associates were also found without valid medical certificates.
Case Registered, Probe Ongoing
A case has been filed against Sawant and his accomplices at Camp Police Station. Authorities are now investigating the scale of the racket and its possible links to other illegal operations.
Growing Concern Over Fake Doctors
This incident comes after a similar case in Rohtak, where a man with only a diploma in patient care assistance impersonated a medical intern at PGIMS hospital. He was found roaming OPD and trauma wards in a white coat, attending to patients without any valid qualifications.
