Jaipur: Rajasthan’s Special Operations Group (SOG) has uncovered a major medical qualification scam involving foreign medical graduates who allegedly used forged documents to secure internships in government medical colleges. The investigation revealed that unqualified individuals attempted to infiltrate the state’s healthcare system by bypassing mandatory certification processes.
Fake FMGE Certificates Used to Enter Government Hospitals
According to officials, the racket came to light when investigators found that one accused had procured a forged FMGE pass certificate and obtained approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC). This fraudulent document allowed him to secure an internship at a government medical college. Further inquiry showed that two others had similarly used fake certificates to obtain placements in government hospitals across the state.
Three Arrested for Fraudulent Internships
Additional Director General of Police (SOG) Vishal Bansal confirmed to IANS that three individuals were arrested for securing internship positions using counterfeit documents. All three had repeatedly failed the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE), a mandatory test for foreign medical graduates who wish to practice medicine in India.
How the Racket Operated
The scam surfaced after the SOG received intelligence about an accused from Dausa who allegedly acquired a fake FMGE qualification certificate with the help of a criminal network. Using this forged document, he obtained NMC approval and later secured an internship at Government Medical College, Karauli. A case was registered once the fraud was confirmed.
Failures in FMGE and Procurement of Fake Certificates
Investigators found that the accused had completed his MBBS degree from Georgia but failed the FMGE in 2022, 2023 and 2024. After repeated failures, he reportedly approached another doctor for help. Together with a third doctor and other associates, they arranged fake FMGE clearance and NMC registration for Rs 16 lakh, enabling him to enter the internship program illegally.
More Cases Linked to the Same Network
The probe revealed that this was not an isolated incident. Two other accused individuals had also allegedly obtained forged FMGE certificates and secured internships at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Alwar and Government Medical College in Dausa. The pattern suggested the existence of a wider network involved in issuing fraudulent medical qualifications.
Investigation Expands to Identify Masterminds
The three accused were produced before a court and remanded to police custody. The SOG has expanded its investigation to uncover the masterminds, intermediaries and other possible beneficiaries who may have used similar fraudulent routes to infiltrate the medical system. Officials are examining records across multiple institutions to determine the full scale of the scam.
Public Health Risks and Strict Action Ahead
Authorities stated that such offences severely compromise the integrity of the medical profession and endanger public health. The SOG reiterated that strict legal action will be taken against all individuals involved in obtaining or facilitating fake medical qualifications, as well as any officials who may have aided the fraud.
