The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has unveiled MahaCPD, a dedicated digital platform aimed at delivering high-quality, standardized Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for registered doctors across Maharashtra.
First-of-its-Kind Technology Integration
MahaCPD is India’s first CPD platform to integrate blockchain-based certification and facial ID verification, ensuring transparency, accountability, and security in awarding CPD credit points, ANI reported.
Breaking Barriers to CPD Access
Traditionally, CPD sessions were largely confined to urban centres, requiring doctors to travel and often clash with their working hours.
This system inadvertently excluded many rural practitioners. MahaCPD now enables doctors to learn anytime, anywhere, overcoming logistical challenges and promoting equitable access to continuous education.
Importance of CPD for Doctors
According to the Medical Council of India’s Code of Ethics Regulations (2002), 30 CPD points must be earned every five years for license renewal.
World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes that continuous education is essential for maintaining competency, adapting to innovations, and ensuring patient safety.
How MahaCPD Works
- Doctors can access online CPD programs curated with subject experts.
- Up to 10 CPD points can be earned online per renewal cycle.
- Blockchain ensures that certificates are tamper-proof and verifiable.
- Facial recognition secures learner identity and participation.
- Registration is open at www.mahacpd.com.
Vision for the Future
Dr. Vinky Rughwani, Administrator, MMC, highlighted that MahaCPD is designed as an evolving ecosystem, with regular updates in content, new specialties, and improved learning tools based on feedback from doctors.
National and Global Alignment
MahaCPD aligns with national digital education initiatives and global best practices.
The WHO’s 2023 policy brief also advocates leveraging digital platforms to enhance continuing education for healthcare workers, particularly in under-resourced areas.
