Patients Can Verify Doctors’ Credentials via QR Code
Mumbai: In a bid to prevent fraudulent medical practitioners from operating, the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has launched the ‘Know Your Doctor’ (KYD) platform, allowing patients to verify doctors’ credentials in real-time using a QR code.
Ensuring Transparency in Healthcare
Through this initiative, patients can access details such as a doctor’s registration number, degree, and specialisation by either entering the doctor’s name on the platform or scanning the QR code displayed at clinics and hospitals.
Addressing the Rise of Fake Doctors
Dr. Vinky Rughwani, MMC administrator, stated that numerous complaints are received about fake or unqualified doctors providing treatment, often discovered only when patients suffer side effects. “To recognize genuine doctors and protect patients, we launched this platform where individuals can verify a doctor’s license, degree, and registration validity,” he explained.
Implementation and Future Plans
Despite an existing anti-quackery committee, fraudulent practices continue. Currently, two lakh doctors are registered with the MMC, with 1.4 lakh renewing their licenses.
The council has notified all registered doctors about the initiative and will soon distribute QR codes, which will be displayed at their clinics or hospitals for easy verification by the public.
