Thane: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced a series of health initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare access across the state, particularly for cancer care and women’s health. Speaking on Sunday, Shinde revealed plans to establish day care chemotherapy centres in six cities—Thane, Solapur, Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nanded, and Wardha. This initiative aims to improve cancer treatment accessibility.
Additionally, Shinde highlighted the launch of eight cancer mobile vans, 102 ambulances, and seven advanced life support ambulances. To further bolster healthcare infrastructure, two new CT machines and 80 digital handheld X-ray machines will be deployed to serve underserved areas, helping diagnose and treat diseases in rural regions.
A comprehensive health check-up programme will be introduced for approximately two crore women across the state. This program will cover tests for blood pressure, diabetes, haemoglobin, and more, with mobile health units reaching even the most remote areas to ensure women receive adequate medical care.
To complement these efforts, Shinde also announced the creation of a “Deputy Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Cell” to mirror the success of the Chief Minister’s Medical Assistance Cell, which has provided Rs. 460 crore in financial aid to 51,000 patients over the past two years. The new cell aims to provide further support to those in need.
The 80 portable digital handheld X-ray machines will play a key role in tuberculosis detection in rural districts, while new CT scan facilities will be available at hospitals in Vaijapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Dahanu.
Shinde also launched the ‘Mayaka’ app, focused on promoting mental health and well-being.
In a separate announcement, Union Minister of State for AYUSH, Prataprav Jadhav, shared plans to establish a naturopathy and wellness center, as well as a herbal garden, in Dare village, Satara district. Furthermore, the ‘Har Ghar Ayurveda’ scheme was introduced to encourage Ayurveda practices across households.
