Illegal “Chandasi Hospital” Operating for 25 Years; Two Reported Deaths, Probe Ordered
Chhatarpur, MP:
A disturbing video has gone viral from Jhamtuli village in Rajnagar block, Chhatarpur district, showing a lungi-clad quack administering an injection to a woman, raising widespread alarm and prompting health authorities to initiate a probe into the illegal medical practice.
The so-called doctor, unqualified and unregistered, has allegedly been running a makeshift hospital named “Chandasi Hospital” for the past 25 years, according to local reports. The facility reportedly includes a clinic, a pharmacy, and even patient admission services—all without any valid license or oversight.
⚠️ History of Medical Negligence and Deaths
Villagers have revealed shocking details about the man’s track record:
- Two patients are believed to have died during his treatment.
- One patient narrowly escaped death just last month after being injected with the wrong medication. The patient’s condition deteriorated rapidly and they had to be rushed to Gwalior, where they were saved after intensive care.
📹 Viral Video Sparks Authorities into Action
The viral video triggered public outrage and forced officials to take notice. Rajnagar Block Medical Officer (BMO) Awadhesh Chaturvedi confirmed receiving multiple complaints and the footage from local residents.
“Strict action will be taken. We have received the complaints and video. Investigation is underway,” said Chaturvedi to Free Press Journal.
Chhatarpur’s Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), Dr. R.P. Gupta, also confirmed that the administration is actively working on the case and promised firm action.
🛑 Recurring Issue of Quackery in Madhya Pradesh
This is not the first such case in the state. Recently, Medical Dialogues reported that the cath lab at Mission Hospital in Damoh was sealed after a fake doctor allegedly conducted heart surgeries, resulting in at least seven patient deaths.
🔍 Public Health Concerns and Lack of Oversight
The Jhamtuli case once again raises serious concerns over unlicensed practitioners and lax enforcement in rural and semi-urban areas. For years, people in the area had no choice but to rely on the fake facility due to lack of accessible, affordable government healthcare.
Health experts and public welfare groups are urging:
- Immediate sealing of the illegal facility
- Legal action against the quack
- Awareness drives to educate villagers on the dangers of unqualified medical treatment
- Strengthened monitoring of rural healthcare setups
