Families Allege Maternity Ward Staff Collected Rs 2,000 Each During Childbirth
A major controversy has erupted at Civil Hospital Sonkatch in Madhya Pradesh after allegations surfaced that hospital staff demanded money from families of pregnant women during delivery procedures inside the maternity ward.
According to media reports, relatives of three pregnant women alleged that staff members posted in the maternity ward collected Rs 2,000 each on Saturday night in the name of delivery charges. The families claimed that the money was demanded during childbirth procedures at the government hospital.
Rogi Kalyan Samiti Members, BJP Leaders Reach Hospital
After receiving information about the alleged collection of money, members of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti along with local BJP leaders reached the hospital and spoke with the affected families regarding the incident.
The representatives reportedly confronted the hospital employees accused of taking money and demanded that the collected amount be returned immediately. Following the intervention, the hospital staff allegedly refunded the money to the families.
Viral Video Sparks Public Outrage
The controversy intensified after a video linked to the incident went viral across social media platforms. The viral footage triggered widespread criticism of the hospital administration and raised serious concerns regarding alleged illegal collection practices inside government healthcare institutions.
The incident has sparked demands for strict accountability and disciplinary action against the staff members allegedly involved in the matter.
Health Officials Promise Action
Speaking on the issue, Block Medical Officer Anil Rao said that the matter would be reported to higher authorities and appropriate action would be taken against those found guilty after investigation.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns regarding transparency, monitoring, and patient rights in public healthcare facilities.
Similar Bribery Incident Reported Earlier In Gujarat
Earlier, a similar corruption-related incident was reported from Anand General Hospital in Gujarat, where a contractual orthopaedic surgeon was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe to perform a surgery that was supposed to be conducted free of cost.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged at the Anand ACB police station by a local resident, who alleged that the doctor had demanded money for conducting a finger surgery on his friend.
