Major Boost to Delhi’s Public Health Infrastructure
New Delhi: Lok Nayak Hospital has inaugurated a Model Treatment Centre (MTC) dedicated to the management of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C under the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NVHCP). The launch marks a major step forward in Delhi’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its response to viral hepatitis.
First-of-its-Kind Facility in the Capital
Hospital officials confirmed that this is the first such MTC in the national capital. The centre has been established to ensure comprehensive care for individuals suspected or diagnosed with Hepatitis B or C, addressing the growing burden of viral hepatitis across the country.
Focus on Early Detection and Advanced Treatment
The newly introduced centre aims to streamline the treatment process—from screening and early diagnosis to advanced medical management. With viral hepatitis remaining a major public health concern in India, the MTC is expected to significantly enhance access to accurate diagnostics and timely treatment.
Free Screening for At-Risk Individuals
As part of its services, the MTC will provide free screening for people exhibiting symptoms or possessing risk factors related to Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. This initiative is intended to help detect infections early, particularly among vulnerable and underserved populations.
No Cost for Diagnostic or Treatment Services
Once diagnosed, patients will be eligible for free clinical evaluations, laboratory tests, antiviral medications, and continuous follow-up care. Hospital authorities have reiterated that no patient will be charged for any service delivered under the NVHCP.
Ensuring Comprehensive Patient Support
The facility has been designed to deliver patient-centric care, ensuring that individuals receive the necessary medical support throughout their treatment journey. The centre also aims to reduce the financial burden associated with long-term hepatitis management.
Statement from Medical Director
Highlighting the hospital’s commitment, Medical Director Dr. B. L. Chaudhary stated, “The MTC at Lok Nayak Hospital provides free diagnostics, treatment, and other support services to all patients.” His remarks reflect the broader goal of expanding access to equitable healthcare.
Step Toward a Hepatitis-Free Future
With Delhi’s first dedicated MTC now operational, officials believe it will significantly contribute to the national mission of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat. The initiative underscores the growing focus on preventive healthcare and accessible treatment services across the capital.
