Family Alleges Foul Play Amid Suicide Suspicions; Probe Underway
Kolkata:
In a deeply unsettling incident, the decomposed body of a 26-year-old junior doctor was discovered on Saturday in a flat within the Barasat Police Housing Complex, North 24-Parganas. The young doctor, a recent medical graduate from the class of 2023, was the son of a police driver posted in Barasat and had been living alone while his family was away on a pilgrimage to Tarapith.
The incident has sparked widespread concern and speculation, especially after the family alleged that the death was not a suicide but a result of foul play.
Foul Smell Leads to Shocking Discovery
According to police sources, a strong stench from the flat alerted neighbours, prompting them to investigate. Upon entering the premises, they found the doctor’s lifeless, decomposed body and immediately informed local authorities. Barasat police arrived and began a preliminary investigation.
While initial findings suggest suicide, the family has raised serious allegations of mental manipulation and external interference in the young doctor’s life.
Family Cries Foul, Cites Mental Harassment
The family of the deceased, identified as Debjit Ghosh, told media outlets that he had been under severe mental stress due to not securing a hospital posting of his choice. His mother and relatives alleged that he was being systematically drugged to destabilize his mental state.
According to Eisamay Online, the grieving mother claimed that her son was given medicines by relatives—specifically an uncle and aunt—to alter his mental balance, leading him to suicide.
His father added, “The boy would occasionally shut himself in the room. He would get angry if we called out to him. But we never imagined he would do something like this.”
Post-Mortem and Police Probe On
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause and time of death. Police have not ruled out any angle and have assured that all allegations made by the family will be thoroughly investigated.
The case comes amid growing concerns over mental health issues among medical professionals, following a series of similar tragedies involving doctors and medical students across the country.
