Visakhapatnam: Dr. A Achyuta Rao, an associate professor in the orthopaedics department at King George Government Hospital, Visakhapatnam, has been transferred to Government General Hospital, Eluru, following allegations of misconduct.
Reports suggest that Dr. Rao was involved in various irregularities, including improper issuance of disability certificates, accepting bribes for surgeries, a high rate of surgical failures, rude behavior towards staff and students, and non-compliance with senior officials’ directives.
State Health Minister Satyakumar Yadav affirmed that strict action would be taken against doctors who neglect their duties or engage in unethical practices. He criticized the negligence and lack of accountability in government hospitals between 2019 and 2024, attributing it to the previous administration’s inaction.
The minister emphasized that public healthcare access suffers when doctors engage in misconduct, necessitating firm measures. He has ordered a thorough investigation into the multiple complaints against Dr. Rao, ensuring that necessary action is taken.
