Senior Resident Doctor Untraceable
Lucknow: A senior resident doctor from the pathology department of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has gone absconding following allegations of sexual exploitation, blackmail, and forcibly attempting to convert a colleague’s religion. The accused has been untraceable for the past two days, with his mobile phone reportedly switched off, and has not responded to police notices.
Police Suspect Flight to Uttarakhand
Preliminary investigations suggest that the doctor may have fled to the neighbouring state of Uttarakhand. Uttar Pradesh Police have contacted Uttarakhand counterparts to track his movements and locate him.
University Inquiry Efforts
Repeated attempts by KGMU’s Internal Committee for Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace to contact the accused have failed. The university inquiry team is verifying the academic and personal background of the doctor, including his MBBS tenure at Agra Medical College, and investigating previous marital records.
Alleged Forced Marriage and Conversion
Sources indicate the accused reportedly married a batchmate in February 2025 after she allegedly converted her religion. Investigators are recording her statement to determine whether the conversion was voluntary or coerced.
FIR Registered and Police Investigation
An FIR has been registered based on a complaint filed by the female doctor’s father, who had raised the matter on the Chief Minister’s grievance portal and with the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission. The accused has been suspended and barred from entering the KGMU campus, except for inquiry proceedings.
CM Yogi Adityanath’s Intervention
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally spoke to the female doctor on Monday evening. She alleged that the accused was forming a gang within KGMU, pressuring her to convert to Islam to marry him, and emotionally exploiting her after she refused.
Suicide Attempt by the Victim
The female doctor reportedly attempted suicide on 27 December by consuming a large quantity of medicines inside her hostel room. She was immediately admitted to the Trauma Centre and later shifted to the fifth floor of the Critical Care Management (CCM) ICU for advanced treatment.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are questioning the accused’s wife and other associates to gather more evidence regarding forced conversions and harassment. The police and university administration continue to coordinate closely to ensure justice and prevent further incidents.
