Thoothukudi — Lok Sabha MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi inaugurated a newly built facility for patient attendants at the Thoothukudi Government Medical College and Hospital (TKGMCH), aimed at easing the stay of families accompanying patients during long hospital admissions.
The hall, constructed at a cost of ₹49 lakh with funds from the Thoothukudi Municipal Corporation, provides much-needed shelter and amenities for attendants who often spend days or weeks supporting their loved ones in the hospital.
Event Highlights Community and Healthcare Support
The inauguration event was presided over by Minister for Social Welfare and Women Empowerment P. Geetha Jeevan. Senior officials including Corporation Commissioner Jegan Periyasamy, Commissioner L. Madhubalan, and TKGMCH Dean Dr. G. Sivakumar were present.
MP Kanimozhi inspected the facility and reviewed arrangements to ensure that attendants would be accommodated comfortably and safely.
International Nurses Day Celebrated
Following the inauguration, the hospital also hosted an International Nurses Day celebration, honouring the dedication of healthcare workers. Certificates of appreciation were presented to nurses who have completed 25 and 30 years of service.
The event featured a candlelight oath ceremony, where nurses reaffirmed their commitment to the profession.
Additional dignitaries including Additional Collector (Development) R. Ishwarya, Resident Medical Officer Silas Jeyamani, and other hospital staff attended the function, reflecting the hospital’s commitment to both patient care and community well-being.
