
Kakinada: In a shocking incident on International Women’s Day, Jana Sena Party (JSP) leader Varupula Thammayya Babu allegedly verbally abused a woman doctor at the Prathipadu Community Health Centre (CHC). The confrontation led to his immediate suspension from the party by JSP chief and Deputy Chief Minister Konidela Pawan Kalyan, who also ordered an official inquiry.
Incident Details
The altercation occurred when local JSP activists were injured in an accident and brought to CHC for treatment. While the doctor was attending to the injured, Thammayya insisted on speaking with her. When she declined due to her duties, he reportedly stormed into the CHC and berated her for not responding to his call. His followers also allegedly threatened and harassed the doctor, leaving her distressed.
Official Complaint and Response
The doctor reported the incident to the District Coordinator of Hospital Services (DCHS) and Collector Shan Mohan Sagili. The fact that the incident took place on Women’s Day drew widespread criticism.
In response, Pawan Kalyan directed district officials to conduct a thorough inquiry and ensure legal action is taken against those responsible. The incident has sparked strong condemnation from political and social groups, calling for stricter measures to protect medical professionals.
