Panic gripped Jhansi Medical College early Friday morning after a fire broke out in the gynaecology ward, forcing patients and attendants to rush out as thick smoke spread through the area. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.
The blaze, which began around 5 am due to a short circuit in an electrical panel box, was swiftly brought under control. Chief Medical Superintendent Dr. Sachin Mahor confirmed that the fire started when wires in the panel caught fire. Patients quickly alerted hospital staff, and evacuation procedures were immediately carried out.
Hospital personnel used fire extinguishers to contain the flames, while the fire department dispatched two tenders to the spot as a precaution. Chief Fire Officer Raj Kishore Rai, who inspected the site, stated that the incident was caused by electrical overload leading to a short circuit.
Medical college principal Dr. Mayank Singh assured that no one was injured and added that all electric panel boxes across the hospital are being replaced as a precautionary measure.
The incident comes just weeks after a tragic fire at the same institution’s children’s ward claimed the lives of at least 10 children and left 16 others critically injured. That blaze, too, was suspected to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit.
