District Administration Acts Swiftly, Patients Shifted as Probe Begins into Maternal Death

Jagatsinghpur, Odisha | In a shocking incident that has triggered widespread outrage, the district administration of Jagatsinghpur sealed a private hospital after the death of a pregnant woman, allegedly due to medical negligence.

Senior officials, including the Sub-Collector and the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), took immediate action on Thursday, ordering the closure of the facility and shifting all admitted patients to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) to ensure continuity of care.

Condition Worsened During Referral to Bhubaneswar Hospital

According to reports, the deceased woman, a resident of Dondua village under Jagatsinghpur Sadar police limits, was admitted on Wednesday morning with pregnancy-related complications. As her health deteriorated, doctors advised her family to transfer her to a higher medical facility in Bhubaneswar.

However, her condition reportedly worsened during transit, and she was declared dead on arrival at the referred medical college hospital.

Family Alleges Negligence, Protests Turn Violent

The victim’s family has accused the private hospital of medical negligence, claiming that timely and proper treatment could have saved her life. Enraged over the incident, locals allegedly resorted to stone pelting at the hospital premises.

Police intervened and detained three individuals in connection with the violence. Meanwhile, family members staged a road blockade demanding compensation, immediate arrest of the doctor involved, and strict action against the hospital management.

Administration Orders Probe Amid Rising Tensions

Authorities have initiated a detailed inquiry into the incident to determine whether lapses in medical care led to the tragic outcome. The sealing of the hospital is being seen as a precautionary and corrective measure amid escalating tensions in the area.

Growing Concerns Over Patient Safety in Private Healthcare

This incident has once again raised serious questions about patient safety, emergency response, and accountability in private healthcare facilities. It follows similar cases across India where alleged negligence has led to strict administrative action, highlighting the urgent need for stronger regulation and oversight in the sector.
