A four-month-old baby girl died on Monday at Omandurar Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital in Triplicane, triggering protests by her family who alleged that she was administered the wrong injection during treatment.

Parents Stage Protest, Demand Action Against Medical Staff

Following the tragic incident, the infant’s parents staged a protest outside the hospital, accusing doctors and nurses of medical negligence. They demanded strict action against those responsible, claiming that a fatal error in treatment led to their child’s death.

Baby Admitted with Cold-Related Complications

According to reports, the child was the daughter of Arunkumar, a daily-wage labourer living in a housing complex in Perumbakkam. The baby was admitted to the hospital after showing symptoms of severe health issues related to cold and respiratory distress.

During the course of treatment, an injection was administered. However, the infant reportedly died shortly after receiving it, raising suspicions among family members.

Allegation of Wrong Injection

The grieving parents alleged that the baby was given the wrong injection, which they believe caused her sudden death. The allegation has intensified concerns about patient safety and protocol adherence in government hospitals.

Police Assure Probe, Protest Withdrawn

Officials from the Triplicane police intervened and assured the family that a proper investigation would be conducted. They stated that strict action would be taken if any negligence is established. Following this assurance, the family members called off their protest.

Rising Concerns Over Medical Negligence

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over alleged medical negligence in healthcare facilities. In a separate recent case from North 24 Parganas, a newborn declared dead by a private nursing home was later found alive just hours before burial, raising serious questions about medical accountability.

Such recurring incidents continue to put the spotlight on the quality of care, staff accountability, and adherence to medical protocols across healthcare institutions in India.
