New Delhi: Dr R V Asokan, National President, Indian Medical Association (IMA) has issued a public apology for his remarks in an interview with PTI regarding an observation made by the Supreme Court during the hearing of a case to which the IMA was the petitioner, saying he regrets his statement and it was never his intention to lower the dignity of Supreme Court. The Supreme Court bench in the Patanjali Ayurved Ltd’s misleading advertisement case had observed that it was of the opinion that IMA also needs to put its house in order. The bench has then said “ There are several complaints relating to the alleged unethical acts on the part of the members of the Association (IMA) who are abusing the trust reposed in them by the patients and not only prescribing prohibitory medicines, but also recommending avoidable/unnecessary investigations as a part of the line of treatment, for purely extraneous considerations.” Dr R V Asokan has made certain statements during his interview with PTI on the above statement made by Supreme Court for which he tendered unconditional apology
