Institute assures students and stakeholders of continued recognition, urges calm amid uncertainty
New Delhi: Following the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) releasing a seat matrix that showed zero MBBS seats allotted to the Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (HIMSR) for the academic year 2025–26, the Delhi-based institute has issued a public clarification attributing the matter to an ongoing legal dispute.
In a notice dated 21 July 2025, HIMSR stated that the issue is linked to a sub-judice matter between Jamia Hamdard and HIMSR, which is currently being heard by the Hon’ble Court. The institute urged students, parents, and well-wishers to remain calm and avoid unnecessary speculation.
“We would like to inform all stakeholders that this issue is linked to an ongoing contentious issue between Jamia Hamdard and HIMSR, which is currently sub-judice,” read the official notice. The institute added that it is working closely with the concerned authorities and has approached the court on a priority basis to resolve the matter.
The Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that MCC released the tentative MBBS seat matrix for NEET 2025 counselling based on the data shared by the National Medical Commission (NMC) on 17 July 2025. The list included 775 medical colleges across 35 states and UTs. However, nine institutes, including HIMSR, were listed with zero MBBS seats.
Other affected institutions include:
- Gayathri Vidya Parishad Institute of Health Care & Medical Technology, Visakhapatnam
- Shri Rawatpura Sarkar Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Raipur
- Swaminarayan Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, Kalol, Gujarat
- Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum
- Index Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Indore
- Geetanjali Medical College & Hospital, Udaipur
- Father Colombo Institute of Medical Sciences, Warangal
- National Capital Region Institute of Medical Sciences, Meerut
Despite the setback, HIMSR has reassured currently enrolled students that the institute remains a recognized and accredited medical college and that its operations and academic programs remain unaffected.
“We are making all efforts to remain an active participating institute for the current MCC counselling phases,” the notice stated, adding that regular updates will be provided once official communication is received.
The institute concluded by calling for patience from its stakeholders while legal proceedings continue: “We urge students, parents, and well-wishers to remain calm and avoid speculation during this period.”
